It was introduced to the market by Tiffany’s who gave Blue Zoisite the commercial name Tanzanite in 1968. The stone has low resistance to ultrasound so it should NOT be cleaned by ultrasonic cleaners which are normally used for most other stones and jewelry. Tanzanite is quite soft, 6.5 on Mohs scale, which means that is is prone to get scratches if used carelessly in everyday wearing. Despite the obvious weaknesses this is an amazing and almost hypnotizing stone with an extremly good luster.
